Srinagar, January 6: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Monday that the restoration efforts following the recent snowfall in the valley are progressing rapidly and are being closely supervised.

The Kashmir valley and parts of the Jammu division experienced moderate to heavy snowfall on Sunday, resulting in road closures and widespread power outages.

“In the wake of the snowfall that affected Jammu and Kashmir yesterday (Sunday), especially in the valley, we are actively working on restoration and closely monitoring the situation,” Abdullah shared in a post on X.

He noted that the electricity demand in the valley currently stands at 1,200 MW, a figure expected to increase throughout the day. Snow clearance operations are ongoing, with an emphasis on priority roads.

Additionally, ministers Sakina Itoo and Javaid Dar, along with Chief Minister advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, will be touring various districts to assess the on-ground situation.
