JAMMU, Dec 26: The 72-hour shutdown called by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti in response to the proposed ropeway project has now entered its second day in Katra, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The community, including pony owners, shopkeepers, and various traders, are demonstrating against the planned ropeway project, which is intended to facilitate access to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
Since early morning, businesses throughout Katra town have remained completely closed as the shutdown continues. On the previous day, multiple protesters were taken into custody by the police.
The protesters have accused the government of neglecting dialogue and compelling them to resort to protests instead.
Last month, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board announced intentions to establish the ropeway, aimed at aiding senior citizens, children, and those who struggle with the 13-kilometer trek to the cave shrine.
This proposed Rs 250-crore project strives to link Tarakote Marg to Sanji Chhat, the pathway leading to the shrine.
However, the complete shutdown has created challenges for pilgrims in Katra town.
