JAMMU, Dec 12: Rajya Sabha MP Gulam Ali Khatana has expressed full support for the proactive measures taken by the Union Government and the J&K administration to eliminate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
During a recent meeting in New Delhi, Khatana, along with former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and MP Trivendra Singh Rawat and other MPs, discussed various issues concerning J&K with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh.
Khatana acknowledged the decisive actions of the Union and UT administrations, stating that the backbone of terrorist networks and their support systems has been weakened significantly, leading to increased pressure on these groups.
The meeting also addressed the current law and order situation in the region. Khatana criticized the National Conference government for misleading the public regarding the Rohingya issue. He advocated for the deportation of Rohingyas from J&K, emphasizing that local youth are struggling with unemployment and the region cannot afford to support job seekers from outside. He urged the UT Government to collaborate with the Union Government on this matter.
Furthermore, Khatana called for a job-oriented mining policy that protects the livelihoods of those dependent on mining, ensuring they are not unjustly penalized.
He emphasized that agricultural policies should also promote job creation, encouraging youth to pursue agriculture and horticulture for their livelihoods. He recommended extensive publicity for government schemes aimed at boosting these sectors and proposed awareness campaigns in collaboration with agricultural universities and related departments across the UT.
Khatana insisted on closing loopholes in the mining policy to ensure that revenue generated benefits the government rather than a select few individuals. He also highlighted the urgent need to establish strong employment-generating policies in both public and private sectors to address the rising unemployment crisis in J&K. The issue of the Waqf Board was also discussed during the MPs’ meeting with the Home Minister and the Minister of Textiles.
