Leh, December 11: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, unveiled the book titled ‘Battles Against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (L.T.T.E.) In Sri Lanka,’ authored by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd). This event took place in New Delhi, with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces, General Anil Chauhan, and First Lady Neelam Mishra in attendance.
Published by Prabhat Prakashan, the 320-page book is a significant contribution to understanding the events surrounding the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (L.T.T.E.) in Sri Lanka. Rijiju praised the LG for his remarkable effort in bringing out this much-anticipated book and remarked that while books can stem from various motivations, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra’s work is a testament to his commitment and sense of duty.
The Union Minister emphasized that this book is essential reading for anyone wishing to learn about the history of L.T.T.E. in Sri Lanka, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their missions. He underscored the importance of recognizing the contributions of Indian Army soldiers and saluted both the LG and all Indian Army personnel.
In his address, the LG shared that he was inspired to write this book to honor the sacrifices and contributions of the soldiers under his command during the conflict with LTTE in Sri Lanka. He dedicated the book to the courageous soldiers and their families, acknowledging the pain of separation endured by those whose loved ones didn’t return from the front lines.
The book provides a firsthand account of the induction of his Brigade into Sri Lanka on October 11, 1987, as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) and its subsequent engagement in intense battles against the LTTE.
