Patna, Feb 16: RJD leader Lalu Prasad ignited controversy on Sunday by referring to the Maha Kumbh as “meaningless,” while attributing the recent stampede in New Delhi, which resulted in 18 fatalities, to the Railways. Prasad criticized the BJP-led central government for its handling of the events surrounding the stampede at the New Delhi railway station and called for the railway minister’s resignation.
“This stampede is deeply troubling and reveals the insufficient arrangements put in place by the central government. The railway minister should step down following this incident… it highlights a complete failure of the Railways,” he stated.
The stampede occurred late Saturday night at a packed railway station, leading to at least 18 deaths and multiple injuries. Further details on the number of victims from Bihar are still pending.
When questioned about the thousands heading to Prayagraj for the major religious event, Prasad remarked, “The Kumbh is devoid of meaning… it’s just meaningless.” Responding to his comments, Bihar BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma stated that this exposes the RJD’s attitude towards Hinduism.
“His statements stem from a politics of appeasement. The RJD has a history of disrespecting the religious sentiments of Hindus. Lalu Prasad’s latest assertion that the Maha Kumbh is meaningless lays bare the party’s perspective on Hindu faith,” Sharma asserted. (PTI)
