Gonda (UP), Dec 16: On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha encouraged students to rid themselves of any feelings of complacency, calling it a major barrier to achieving a successful future.
He spoke at a ceremony honoring outstanding students at the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College, where he emphasized his roots in Uttar Pradesh.
During the event commemorating the fourth death anniversary of former MP Satyadev Singh, Sinha praised the National Education Policy (NEP) for its emphasis on nurturing curiosity and allowing students to choose subjects that align with their interests and strengths.
“Had India’s renowned mathematician Ramanujan been restricted from pursuing his passions, the world may not have known him as the extraordinary mathematician he was,” Sinha stated.
He urged educators to foster students’ creativity, encouraging them to break free from outdated limitations and inspire original thoughts that surpass the achievements of 20th-century scholars.
Sinha also stressed the necessity of merging scientific pursuits with cultural values to enhance India’s global standing.
Critiquing the stagnation in the education sector, he pointed out that “for 34 years, education policies remained unchanged, burdening students and stifling innovation.” Sinha recalled India’s historical economic prosperity, noting, “In the 11th century, India’s GDP represented 33% of global economic output. However, due to successive invasions, this figure fell to just 4% by 1950.” He highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is recovering, with a GDP share of 15% in 2023.
“We cannot rest here. We must enhance trade efforts and aim for a 33% share of the global economy to reclaim the status of ‘Vishwa Guru,’” Sinha concluded.
