Hyderabad, February 2: The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, addressed the South India BHU Alumni Meet held at IICT Auditorium, Hyderabad, today.
During his speech, the Lieutenant Governor offered his greetings on the foundation day of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
He stated that the BHU alumni meet highlights a common dedication to Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’s vision and significant community engagement.
“Mahamana envisioned a University that would contribute to the creation of a new India. BHU has realized that dream. It has upheld our fundamental ideals, traditions, and values while also shaping the nation’s destiny by revolutionizing the education system,” said the Lieutenant Governor.
He observed that the Banaras Hindu University fostered the spirit of the freedom movement after its establishment in 1916, significantly contributing to raising public consciousness. In the post-independence era, it emerged as a catalyst for socio-economic and industrial transformation, making invaluable contributions to the nation’s progress, he emphasized.
The Lieutenant Governor remarked, “Mahamana’s principles, rooted in three primary goals – liberating India, revitalizing industries for a developed nation, and equipping youth with an excellent education system for a brighter tomorrow—provided the foundation for a modern and self-sufficient India.
Mahamana consistently asserted that India requires both economic empowerment and cultural enlightenment, which is why he envisioned BHU as a convergence point for knowledge, culture, and patriotism. BHU will forever be remembered as a birthplace of revolutionary ideas guiding India’s journey toward self-reliance.”
He underscored the contributions of Banaras Hindu University to the nation’s advancement, as highlighted in a monograph created during Amrit Mahotsav.
He mentioned that the monograph rightly acknowledged BHU students as more than just scholars; they are agents of change.
The monograph noted: “BHU has emerged as a crucial ally in India’s economic development initiatives. It has been a nurturing ground for revolutionary ideas, fostering a sense of patriotism and activism among its students, many of whom evolved into prominent figures in India’s fight for freedom. BHU has not only dedicated itself to providing world-class education to Indian women but has also challenged the oppressive colonial regime by preparing them to become future leaders, achievers, and thinkers. The spirit of BHU, with its unwavering commitment to the nation, is forever etched in the chronicles of anti-colonial history, continually inspiring future generations to pursue excellence and uphold the cherished principles of freedom, unity, and progress.”
On this occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also praised the distinguished alumni and human capital of BHU for their remarkable achievements and contributions that have fostered transformative inventions and cultivated an ecosystem driving widespread social and economic progress globally.
He extended his warm greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja.
