Jammu, Feb 17: In light of several recent incidents involving cross-border firing and an IED attack along the Line of Control (LoC), Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha stated on Monday that the Indian Army is well-equipped to handle any situation on the borders and is providing a strong response to enemy actions.
He emphasized that there will be no cessation in anti-terror operations, as security agencies have been clearly directed to eradicate the threat and maintain peace and stability in the area.
“The Indian Army is fully capable and is delivering an appropriate response at the border,” Sinha told reporters while attending a sports event here.
His remarks came in response to queries regarding recent incidents on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region, where two army personnel, including a captain, lost their lives in an IED attack carried out by suspected terrorists in the Akhnoor sector on February 11.
Additionally, two army personnel sustained injuries due to separate incidents of cross-border firing in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, while another soldier was injured in a landmine explosion the previous week.
The Indian Army’s retaliatory actions reportedly caused significant casualties on the Pakistani side.
Since India and Pakistan renewed their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, violations along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir have been infrequent.
The Lt Governor mentioned that police and other security forces are operating collaboratively and have received explicit instructions to eliminate terrorism and dismantle its infrastructure.
“There will be no interruption in anti-terrorism operations, as our foremost priority is to preserve peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated. (Agencies)
