SHIMLA, Feb 4: Fresh snowfall has been reported in the higher elevations of Himachal Pradesh, including the North Portal of the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang, leading local authorities to advise commuters to refrain from unnecessary travel due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
In Kinnaur district, Kalpa received 0.2 cm of snow.
A western disturbance, associated with a cyclonic circulation situated over western Afghanistan and neighboring Iran, is expected to move east-northeast over the next two days, according to the Meteorological office.
This weather pattern will likely bring light snowfall to various locations, with chances of isolated moderate snowfall in Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, as well as the higher elevations of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Kullu districts.
Additionally, light rain is anticipated across several areas in Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Kullu districts starting from the afternoon of February 4 until midnight on February 5.
The local Meteorological station issued a yellow warning on Monday for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated spots in Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Kullu, and Sirmaur districts.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted at scattered locations in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, and Mandi districts on February 4.
Expect a few spells of light snowfall, along with one or two moderate spells, over popular tourist spots like Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Solang Valley, Dalhousie, Sissu, and nearby areas from the afternoon of February 4 to the evening of February 5, as per the Met office.
Tabo, situated in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti, recorded the lowest temperature at night, dropping to minus 7.1 degrees Celsius, while Bhuntar in Kullu district reached a high of 25.2 degrees Celsius on Monday afternoon.
From January 1 to February 4, the winter season observed a rainfall deficit of 86 percent in the state, with only 13.4 mm of rainfall recorded against the normal of 94.1 mm during this period. (PTI)
