NEW DELHI, Jan 12: Actors Madhuri Dixit, Amrita Rao, and Bollywood producer Gauri Khan are among the stars who have recently purchased shares in the travel tech platform OYO.
Gauri Khan acquired 2.4 million shares of OYO during the Series G funding round that wrapped up in August 2024, during which the company garnered over Rs 1,400 crore from a group of investors, according to sources cited by PTI.
An inquiry sent to Khan’s team for a comment did not receive a response.
Recently, there’s been an increasing trend of actors and celebrities diversifying their investments into high-growth startups, looking for substantial returns when these companies go public.
According to a company statement, “Madhuri Dixit, her husband Dr. Sriram Nene, along with Dr. Ritesh Malik—the clinician, founder of the flexible workspace company Innov8, founding member of Plaksha University, and an angel investor—acquired 2 million shares of OYO at an undisclosed valuation”.
Additionally, Indian celebrity couple Amrita Rao and her husband Anmol Sood, a well-known radio jockey, also bought OYO shares in the secondary market, as noted by the company.
PTI previously reported that Nuvama Wealth recently purchased shares worth Rs 100 crore in the travel giant at Rs 53 per share on behalf of its investors, who are a group of family offices, through a secondary transaction.
This indicates a valuation of USD 4.6 billion for the company.
Although the valuation has been on the rise, it still falls short of the USD 10 billion valuation OYO reached at its peak. (PTI)
