Mahakumbh Nagar, Feb 14: As of Friday evening, more than 50 crore devotees have participated in a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh, according to the Uttar Pradesh government.
This event represents the “largest gathering” in human history for any religious, cultural, or social occasion, as stated by the state government, which is hosting this grand fair in Prayagraj.
The number of attendees at the Hindu pilgrimage has exceeded the population of every nation worldwide, except for India and China.
Taking place once every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh commenced on January 13 and will run until February 26 at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the legendary Saraswati rivers, all of which hold significant spiritual importance for Hindus.
Despite a tragic stampede that occurred on January 29, the fair continues to attract millions of pilgrims from both India and abroad on a daily basis.
The government’s report indicates that over 92 lakh devotees took a holy dip just by 6 pm on Friday, pushing the cumulative attendance at Maha Kumbh to exceed 50 crore (up to February 14). (AGENCIES)
