New Delhi, Feb 23: Authorities apprehended a man attempting to smuggle a diamond-studded gold necklace valued at Rs 6.08 crore at the IGI Airport upon his return from Bangkok, officials announced on Sunday.
Following a profiling assessment, Customs officials initiated a smuggling case on February 12 against an Indian male passenger arriving at T-3 of IGI Airport from Bangkok.
A thorough inspection of the passenger’s luggage and a personal search led to the discovery of a 40-gram diamond-studded gold necklace, with an estimated worth of Rs 6,08,97,329 (Rs 6.08 crore), as reported by the Delhi Customs on a post on X.
The seized gold necklace was confiscated under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, and the individual was arrested in accordance with Section 104 of the same act. It was also noted that further investigations are ongoing. (PTI)
