SRINAGAR, Feb 17: On Monday, the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar forecasted light to moderate rain and snow in various areas across Jammu and Kashmir on February 19 and 20.
According to the MeT office, “nothing significant is expected until February 18”.
From February 19 to 20, the weather is predicted to be generally cloudy, with chances of light to moderate rain and snow in many locations. The precipitation is anticipated to begin in the late afternoon on Wednesday, continuing through Thursday evening.
The plains of Kashmir and Jammu might experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds in some areas.
Moderate snowfall, ranging from 6 to 10 inches, is likely in the higher reaches of Chenab Valley and South Kashmir, whereas the higher elevations of north and central Kashmir could see 4 to 8 inches, as stated by the MeT office.
Daytime temperatures have increased by 2 to 4°C across several regions of Jammu and Kashmir, with Jammu recording the highest temperature at 24.9°C and Katra at 23.6°C. In the Kashmir valley, Srinagar reached a maximum of 18.2°C, while Qazigund in south Kashmir noted 17.4°C.
Nighttime temperatures fell by 0 to 1°C in numerous areas, with the lowest minimum recorded at Jammu (10.2°C) and Katra (9.6°C) in the Jammu Division. Conversely, nighttime temperatures in the Kashmir valley saw a rise, with Srinagar documenting 2.1°C and Qazigund at -0.2°C during the night between Sunday and Monday.
The renowned ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district of north Kashmir reported 0.6mm of rainfall, whereas the frontier district of Kupwara recorded 5.3mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
