Srinagar, Jan 19: The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecast a three-day period of wet weather starting Monday, bringing rain and snow across Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.
The MeT office indicated that the weather will remain predominantly dry over the plains, with a chance of light rain or snow in the mountain areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

On January 20 and 21, there is a likelihood of light snow in isolated to scattered areas, while light rain is anticipated over the plains of Jammu. On January 22, light to moderate rainfall is expected across the plains of Jammu, accompanied by snowfall in many regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
The higher areas of the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Range may also experience light to moderate snowfall.
Furthermore, another round of light to moderate rain over the plains of Jammu and snowfall at numerous locations in Jammu and Kashmir is projected for January 23.
The night temperatures increased at many weather stations but remained below freezing in the Kashmir valley.
Srinagar reported a low of -1°C during the night between Saturday and Sunday, which is 1.0°C above the normal temperature for this time of year.
Gulmarg recorded a low of -7.8°C, slightly higher than -8.2°C, thereby being the coldest spot in the valley; however, this reading was 2.4°C above normal for the popular ski destination in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district for that day.
Pahalgam’s night temperature showed an improvement, recording at -3°C compared to the previous night’s -3.4°C, which is 3.3°C above normal for the region known as the valley of shepherds.
In the border district of Kupwara, the minimum temperature dropped to -2.6°C on Sunday from -1.3°C, still 0.3°C above the seasonal average for this area.
Kokernag in South Kashmir decreased to -3.4°C from -2.8°C the night before, remaining 0.1°C above the typical temperature for this scenic spot during this period.
The minimum temperature at Qazigund, along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, improved slightly, recording -2.8°C on Sunday compared to -2.5°C previously, which is 0.3°C above normal for this key gateway to Kashmir, according to the MeT office. (Agencies)
