Srinagar, Jan 28: A succession of Western Disturbances (WDs) is anticipated to affect Jammu and Kashmir beginning Wednesday night, which may lead to light rain and snow in various areas throughout the region over the next six days, officials stated.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a six-day period of wet weather commencing Wednesday.
Generally, the weather is expected to remain dry until Wednesday afternoon, with a chance of light snow in isolated higher elevations overnight.
A fresh spell of light rain/snow is likely to occur in scattered to fairly widespread areas from the night of January 29 to the morning of January 30, with isolated occurrences projected for January 31.
Another spell of light rain and snow is expected in scattered to fairly widespread areas on February 1 and 2, with some mid to high elevations potentially receiving moderate snowfall during this time, according to the MeT office. Additionally, a further light spell of snow cannot be excluded in scattered locations on February 3.
The weather is likely to remain predominantly cloudy on February 4 and 5, with chances of light rain and snow in scattered to fairly widespread areas.
Meanwhile, the night chill continues in the Kashmir Valley, although there has been a slight improvement as Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -4.3°C compared to -5.5°C on Monday, officials noted.
This temperature is 3.4°C lower than the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this season.
The MeT office indicated a potential rise in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C across many locations starting January 29.
The minimum temperature in Pahalgam, south Kashmir, further dipped during the night of Sunday to Monday to -6.6°C from -6.4°C the previous night, which is -1.1°C below the normal for this tourist destination.
In contrast, Gulmarg in north Kashmir saw a slight increase, settling at -5°C from -5.2°C the prior night; however, this is 2.6°C above normal for this popular ski resort in Baramulla district.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of -4.1°C, Kokernag at -1.6°C, while Kupwara in the frontier region registered -4.1°C, the MeT office added.
The 40-day period known as “Chillia Kalan,” marking the harshest part of winter in the Kashmir Valley, will conclude on January 30.
