NEW DELHI, Feb 18: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has officially moved the security responsibility for CRPF chief G P Singh from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) back to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), according to sources on Tuesday.
The CRPF had previously requested this change from the ministry.
Singh, an officer from the 1991 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), assumed the role of Director General (DG) of the CRPF in January.
For years, he was provided with a Z-category security detail by CISF, a decision stemming from his prior service in Assam and with the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Following the MHA’s recent decision, the DG’s security is now under the charge of the VIP security division of his own force. This shift was made for logistical, operational, and administrative reasons, as reported by PTI.
Singh’s security level remains unchanged: he will continue to enjoy Z-category protection in northeastern states and Jammu and Kashmir, while a lower Y-plus security cover will apply in other regions of the country.
The CRPF’s high-risk dignitaries protection team already took over his security during his recent visits to areas affected by Naxal violence in Chhattisgarh, which marked his first official interactions with field personnel since taking on the role. (Agencies)
