Srinagar, Feb 14: Though many regions in Kashmir recorded temperatures below freezing, there was a slight rise in night temperatures throughout the area, officials reported on Friday.
The Meteorological Department indicated that Srinagar city noted a minimum of -1.3°C, which is an increase of over one degree from the previous night. On the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Srinagar experienced a minimum temperature of -2.4°C.
With the exception of the tourist destination Pahalgam in Anantnag, which continued to have colder weather, all other weather stations in the Valley showed an increase in night temperatures.
In Pahalgam, temperatures dropped to a low of -4.5 degrees Celsius from the previous night’s -3.6 degrees Celsius, according to MeT.
Gulmarg, the ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded a low of -3.6°C, rising from the previous night’s -7.5 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department forecasted that Jammu and Kashmir’s weather is expected to remain largely dry until February 15,
However, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated from February 16, bringing partly to generally cloudy skies and potential light rain or snow at isolated spots, mainly during the evening or night.
Between February 17 and 18, there may be brief episodes of light rain or snow in isolated areas, but no significant weather events are expected until February 18.
According to MeT, a new spell of light rain or snow is expected at scattered locations on February 19 and 20, followed by partly cloudy weather with a chance of light precipitation in isolated areas on February 21 and 22.
This winter, Kashmir has experienced above-normal temperatures alongside a notable shortage of snowfall.
