JAMMU, Dec 17: Member of the Legislative Assembly, Vikram Randhawa, alongside Dr. Devansh Yadav, the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), conducted a thorough inspection of Gandhi Nagar in Jammu South to evaluate ongoing development projects and public facilities in the region.
During the visit, they reviewed the construction progress of a significant drainage project, budgeted at approximately Rs. 1.5 crore, stretching from Swarn Theatre to the Last More Gandhi Nagar Road. This project is a key part of the Locality Infrastructure Development initiative, aimed at resolving persistent drainage challenges in the area.
Highlighting the necessity of maintaining quality standards, both the MLA and the JMC Commissioner instructed the responsible agency to ensure the project’s timely completion. They emphasized, “There must be no delays, and all safety and engineering protocols must be followed throughout the construction process.”
They also called for the removal of encroachments along the nallahs, including unauthorized residential and commercial structures, as these pose risks to public safety and impede the drainage system’s efficiency. The MLA underscored the need to find a balanced solution that addresses development needs while respecting residents’ rights.
The Commissioner noted that measures are being implemented to prevent future encroachments along the nallahs. “We will establish public utilities in the area to enhance accessibility and convenience for the community, ensuring that the space is utilized for public-friendly initiatives,” he added.
In addition, the Commissioner stressed the importance of enhancing the overall aesthetics and cleanliness of the Gandhi Nagar area. He directed that the food court currently located at Gole Market be relocated to improve the market’s atmosphere and alleviate congestion.
To address the issue of two-wheeler parking on Apsara Road, the Commissioner announced that designated parking will be made available at Dussehra Ground. He mentioned that this initiative would significantly reduce traffic congestion. “Fines will be imposed on violators who park in the forbidden areas despite the established guidelines,” he asserted.
