NEW DELHI, Jan 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for his statements claiming that “poison” is being introduced into the Yamuna River, accusing the “AAP-da people” of desperation out of fear of losing in the upcoming Delhi elections.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kartar Nagar in preparation for the February 5 assembly polls, Modi likened AAP leaders to notorious con artist Charles Sobhraj, known for his ability to deceive through a guise of innocence.

“Those who built grand palaces while siphoning off public funds can never prioritize the welfare of the impoverished. This is why they are spreading falsehoods in Delhi,” Modi stated. “These AAP leaders speak with such apparent sincerity that it ensnares people.”

He remarked, “You may be familiar with Charles Sobhraj, who was infamous for tricking individuals with an air of innocence, leading many to fall victim time and again. Therefore, it is essential to remain vigilant against such individuals.”

Modi emphasized that the people of Delhi have made it clear that they will no longer tolerate the “excuses, deceitful promises, and corruption of the AAP-da government,” urging voters to give him a chance to govern after 25 years of Congress and AAP rule.

Further criticizing the AAP, Modi noted that in the last two elections, the party had campaigned on cleaning the Yamuna but now claims that the issue doesn’t attract votes. “This is deceit and a lack of shame. They want people to struggle for clean water while the Purvanchalis worship during Chhath Puja amidst trash,” he commented.

Modi remarked that AAP has committed a “grave sin” that “history, the people of Haryana, and the country will remember.” Addressing Kejriwal’s allegations against Haryana, he questioned, “Is Haryana different from Delhi? Don’t they have family here? Would they poison their own people?”

He pointed out that individuals from Delhi, Modi himself, diplomats, and judges all drink the same water sourced from Haryana. “Can anyone really believe that in order to harm Modi, the Haryana BJP would poison the water? Such accusations are ridiculous. While Indians may forgive mistakes, neither Delhi nor India will forgive intentional wrongdoing,” he added.

In response to Kejriwal’s claim that the BJP is keeping Delhi residents thirsty through “dirty politics,” stating that the BJP in Haryana is contaminating water destined for Delhi, Modi noted that the Election Commission has requested evidence from Kejriwal to support his allegations and warned of legal penalties for making false statements against national unity.

Modi praised the large turnout at his rally, highlighting that it occurred on a working day, which he saw as indicative of public sentiment. “Delhi is declaring that the excuses, false promises, and deceit of AAP-da will no longer be effective. The people of Delhi desire a government that prioritizes their welfare and development,” he said.

He stated, “The people of Delhi want a government that builds homes, modernizes the capital, and ensures clean tap water for every household, freeing them from water mafia exploitation. The message is clear: ‘When February 5 arrives, AAP-da will go, and BJP will come.’”

Modi assured that the BJP aims to introduce initiatives that would be beneficial for all. “When the BJP forms the government, every promise made to the populace will be fulfilled promptly — this is my guarantee. A guarantee from Modi means a committed promise,” he asserted.

He affirmed that millions of Indians are dedicating their efforts to build a ‘Developed India’ and insisted that the capital should serve as a model city. “It’s the 21st century, and 25 years have already passed. The first 14 years were under Congress, followed by 11 years of AAP, yet the issues in Delhi remain unresolved. For 25 years, two generations have suffered due to the mismanagement of these parties,” he concluded.

“Despite the lengthy tenures of previous governments, the same traffic jams, deteriorating streets, pollution, and water crises persist. Who can resolve these issues? It’s not Modi — it’s your vote,” he urged the audience.

Modi called on the citizens to grant him the opportunity to lead. “I will treat you like family, make your dreams my mission, and exert every effort to realize them. The BJP has a proven history of keeping its promises,” he stated. (Agencies)
