Jammu, Jan 3: Authorities apprehended 408 individuals related to bovine smuggling in the Jammu district last year.
Eight of these smugglers were detained and subsequently imprisoned under the Public Safety Act (PSA), according to police reports.
“A total of 378 FIRs were filed, leading to the arrest of 408 individuals throughout the year in this district,” a police spokesperson stated.
In conjunction with these incidents, 354 vehicles were confiscated, and 3,408 bovines were rescued, he noted.
The arrests formed part of an initiative known as Operation Kamdhenu.
Law enforcement has initiated history sheets and personal records for known offenders, also working towards revoking registrations, route permits, and vehicle licenses frequently associated with bovine smuggling, mentioned the spokesperson.
“An extensive database of offenders has been established to enhance future enforcement strategies,” he added.
Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh emphasized the commitment of the police to safeguarding public sentiments and advocating for animal rights.
“Our stringent actions under Operation Kamdhenu are aimed at dismantling the bovine trafficking network and eradicating this issue from our region,” he asserted.
