J&K: A Rising Sporting Hub, Says Sarmad Hafeez
JAMMU, Dec 24: During the closing ceremony of the 37th Sub Junior National Softball Championship held at MA Stadium today, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, praised the organizing bodies and individuals who contributed to the successful execution of major sports events in Jammu and Kashmir. He declared that Jammu and Kashmir is developing into a significant sporting hub, with the Government dedicated to fostering sports in every corner of the Union Territory.
Present at the event were Director General of Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara, Secretary of J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, along with numerous dignitaries.
Hafeez highlighted that the J&K Sports Council had organized 16 national events this year and that the Department of Youth Services and Sports had successfully hosted four consecutive National School Games in Jammu.
He commended the athletes for their discipline, sportsmanship, and commitment to the integrity of sports, referring to them as the future stars of Indian sports. He added that these events not only provide a platform for youth to showcase their talents but also help them remain engaged and connected with their communities.
Calling the participants ambassadors of the nation, Hafeez noted that such sporting events foster friendships, cultural exchange, and camaraderie among individuals from different backgrounds.
In the championship, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana emerged triumphant in their respective categories, securing gold medals, while Jammu and Kashmir earned silver in the boys’ category and bronze in the girls’ category. Madhya Pradesh defeated J&K in the boys’ final with a score of 8-6, and Andhra Pradesh took third place. In the girls’ category, Telangana won against Andhra Pradesh with a score of 5-2, while Jammu and Kashmir secured third place.
In Baseball-5 for boys, Kerala won gold, Madhya Pradesh took silver, and Chhattisgarh claimed bronze. In the girls’ category of Baseball-5, Jammu won the gold medal, Kerala took silver, and Madhya Pradesh received the bronze.
Sarmad Hafeez and the other dignitaries honored the medal-winning teams with trophies and medals and also recognized the technical officials and contributors who facilitated this prestigious event.
