POONCH, Dec 28: Member of Parliament for the Rajouri-Poonch-Anantnag Constituency, Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, presided over the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting on Saturday at Dak Bunglow Poonch.
The focus of the meeting was to evaluate the progress of centrally sponsored projects, flagship programs, and social security initiatives.
District Development Commissioner Vikas Kundal delivered a comprehensive presentation, showcasing the accomplishments under significant government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), along with other developmental projects in the district.
Mian Altaf praised the District Administration for its outstanding performance in implementing these centrally sponsored initiatives.
He highlighted the necessity for enhanced public outreach to increase awareness about government programs, ensuring that benefits effectively reach the grassroots level. He called for timely completion of ongoing projects, emphasizing that out of the 122,668 works planned under district Capex, approximately 77.98% have been finalized.
During the meeting, it was disclosed that a total of 60,354 beneficiaries are currently enrolled in social security schemes, including old age pensions, widow and divorcee assistance, and support for individuals with disabilities. Specifically, 31,959 individuals receive old age pensions, 4,918 benefit from widow/divorcee assistance, and 23,477 receive support for the physically disabled. Furthermore, 6,741 beneficiaries are included under the National Social Assistance Programme, and 763 under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme for the fiscal year 2024-25.
The MP also instructed the relevant officers to guarantee that every household has access to clean drinking water and underscored the significance of maintaining the quality of road construction. He urged the BRO to hasten the blacktopping of essential roads and improve connectivity for security forces and the general public.
Additionally, the MP called for heightened awareness of the PM Surya scheme and reviewed the staffing levels across various departments to enhance the effective implementation of government initiatives.
