POONCH, Dec 28: Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, Member of Parliament for the Rajouri-Poonch-Anantnag constituency, chaired a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting today at Dak Bunglow.
The discussion revolved around reviewing the progress of centrally sponsored projects, flagship initiatives, and social security programs.
District Development Commissioner Vikas Kundal presented a comprehensive overview, outlining the accomplishments under major government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), alongside other development efforts in the region.
Mian Altaf praised the District Administration for its outstanding performance in executing these nationally funded programs.
The MP stressed the importance of enhancing public engagement to raise awareness about government initiatives, ensuring their benefits reach the local population. He highlighted the necessity for timely completion of ongoing projects, mentioning that out of 122,668 planned works under the district’s Capex, approximately 77.98% have been finished.
The session also disclosed that 60,354 beneficiaries are currently enrolled in social security initiatives, such as old age pensions, assistance for widows and divorcees, and support for persons with disabilities. Specifically, 31,959 individuals receive old age pensions, 4,918 benefit from widow/divorcee assistance, and 23,477 receive support for physical challenges. Additionally, 6,741 beneficiaries are part of the National Social Assistance Program, with 763 covered under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme for the financial year 2024-25.
The MP instructed relevant officers to ensure all families have access to clean drinking water and underscored the significance of maintaining road construction quality. He urged the BRO to expedite the blacktopping of essential roads to enhance connectivity for both security forces and the public.
Mian Altaf called for increased awareness of the PM Surya scheme and reviewed staffing levels across various departments to guarantee the efficient implementation of government programs.
