JAMMU, Jan 22: Today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened several delegations at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu to address their concerns and grievances, seeking immediate resolutions.
One delegation, led by Pooja Thakur, the Chairman of the District Development Council Kishtwar, presented issues related to development and employment that are affecting the region.
Representatives from remote areas such as Paddar, Dachhan, Atholi, Nagseni, and other parts of the Kishtwar district submitted a memorandum outlining their key challenges.
The group stressed the necessity for job opportunities for local residents in both ongoing and future power projects, as well as the urgent need for upgrading schools and healthcare facilities to combat the significant shortage of teachers, doctors, and paramedics.
They also highlighted the requirement for enhanced public infrastructure, which includes better roads, reliable drinking water access, and establishing banking services in these secluded areas.
The Chief Minister listened attentively and assured the delegation that their legitimate demands would be prioritized, reiterating the government’s commitment to equitable development in remote regions to uplift marginalized communities.
In a separate engagement, former legislators from the old Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly met with the Chief Minister to express their concerns.
They called for an increase in pension benefits, noting that the last adjustment was made over ten years ago, and also requested an increase in medical allowances.
Additionally, they sought the Chief Minister’s assistance in ensuring smooth and hassle-free access for ex-legislators to the Legislative Assembly and Secretariat, advocating for a straightforward process for their entry.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the delegation that their issues would be addressed in a timely manner, stating that his administration acknowledges their contributions to public service and would establish a mechanism to facilitate their access.
