Jammu, Dec 21: The University of Jammu has made history by achieving the prestigious A++ grade in the NAAC accreditation (Cycle IV), boasting an impressive CGPA of 3.72 on a 4-point scale.
“This marks a significant advancement from the previous accreditation cycle (Cycle III), where we received an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.51, demonstrating our dedication to quality enhancement and sustenance,” remarked Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai, who expressed his immense pride in this accomplishment.
Accompanied by senior officials, Prof. Rai credited this achievement to the collective effort of the entire University community. “The attainment of the A++ grade showcases the steadfast dedication of our faculty, staff, scholars, students, and alumni. It symbolizes our shared vision of establishing the University of Jammu as a global center for academic and research excellence,” he stated.
He elaborated on the transformative initiatives the University has undertaken, which include promoting interdisciplinary research, enhancing academic structures, and implementing best practices.
“This recognition by NAAC is not merely a milestone but a source of inspiration to continue our commitment to quality, innovation, inclusivity, and societal enhancement,” he emphasized.
Prof. Rai expressed his gratitude towards Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister and Pro Vice Chancellor Omar Abdullah, Higher Education Minister Madam Sakina Itoo, and Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Council Prof. Dinesh Singh for their visionary support in achieving this significant milestone.
He also thanked the NAAC Peer Team for their thorough evaluation and insightful suggestions during their visit from December 11-13, 2024.
“This is not the end of our journey but the start of new ambitions to set elevated standards in higher education,” Prof. Rai added.
During the event, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Director of DIQA, provided a comprehensive overview of the parameters evaluated by NAAC and shared insights into the meticulous evaluation process. The seven-member NAAC Peer Team assessed the University based on multiple Key Performance Areas, including Curricular Aspects, Teaching-Learning and Evaluation, Research, Innovations and Extension, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Student Support and Progression, Governance, Leadership, and Management, and Institutional Values and Best Practices.
She noted that the University achieved full scores in the areas of Infrastructure & Learning Resources, Governance, Leadership and Management, and Institutional Values & Best Practices.
Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean of Research Studies, also discussed the recent research initiatives focused on translational and transdisciplinary research. The Peer Team praised the University’s research output, particularly in terms of publications and citations.
With this accreditation, the University joins the ranks of elite A++ institutions in the country, a status that will be valid for seven years.
