Katra (J-K), Mar 1: On Saturday, BJP President J.P. Nadda urged party legislators to focus on the development of their constituencies and strengthen their connections with the public during the closing session of a two-day workshop for MLAs, as reported by a party spokesperson.
In preparation for the upcoming Budget Session following the revocation of Article 370 and the division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories in August 2019, the BJP organized a ‘Vidhayak Prashikshan Shivir’ at a hotel in Katra to enable party legislators to effectively engage in Assembly discussions.
The second day of the workshop included discussions on leadership, governance, and community outreach, according to the spokesperson.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also participated in the event, affirming that while adhering to the party’s nationalist principles, the legislators would advocate for the people’s welfare during the forthcoming Budget Session. He expressed confidence in their ability to present well-prepared arguments. Nadda, together with Singh, national general secretary in charge of J-K Tarun Chugh, and J-K BJP President Sat Sharma, also visited the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine situated in the Trikuta hills prior to attending the workshop in Katra, which serves as the base camp for pilgrims visiting the shrine.
In his address to the MLAs, Nadda underscored the significance of “karyakarta nirman” and urged legislators to transcend the lure of political positions.
Reflecting on his experience as an MLA and opposition leader, he stated that “positions are fleeting, but the trust of the public endures.” He encouraged legislators to actively engage with their communities through platforms like ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendras’, ‘Asha workers’ meetings, and interactions with parents and teachers in government schools.
Nadda also stressed the importance of MLAs being “good listeners” to address public grievances effectively and suggested regular visits to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities to promote inclusive development, as per the spokesperson’s remarks.
“The BJP is set to play a significant role as the main opposition party in the J-K Assembly. For the first time, we have entered with a substantial mandate, securing 29 Assembly seats, which enhances our vote share, placing us above the ruling party, (NC),” Singh stated to reporters on the sidelines of the workshop.
He mentioned that BJP legislators will emphasize both inside and outside the Assembly the drawbacks of not having a “double-engine” government in Jammu and Kashmir.
