JAMMU, Jan 13: The National Aerobic Gymnastics Championship for 2024-25 wrapped up today at the New Indoor Stadium, M.A. Stadium Jammu. Maharashtra claimed the championship title, with Gujarat taking second place, while the host team, Jammu & Kashmir, secured the position of second runner-up.
This championship, organized by the J&K Sports Council in partnership with the Gymnastics Federation of India and the Gymnastics Association of Jammu & Kashmir, saw participation from over 500 athletes and officials representing 20 states, union territories, and organizations.
The event also brought notable recognition to J&K, as two of its gymnasts, Rudraksh Khanna and Riya Sharma, were selected for the esteemed FIG Suzuki World Cup, highlighting their remarkable talent and commitment.
Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, expressed pride in the J&K team’s accomplishments and the successful execution of the championship. “This event has not only highlighted talent but also promoted a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie,” he stated.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, commended the performance of J&K athletes and their coaches while distributing awards. She emphasized that national championships like this provide athletes with an excellent platform to showcase their abilities. She assured that the J&K Sports Council will host more such events throughout the year.
Kiran Wattal, Vice President of GFI and President of the Gymnastics Association of J&K, thanked the J&K Sports Council for its consistent support during the tournament, noting that J&K is a preferred location for GFI to hold training camps and national championships.
The championship, part of the ‘My Youth My Pride’ and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiatives, concluded with a festive atmosphere, drawing hundreds of athletes and spectators eager to witness the grand finale. This event has once again established J&K as a prominent destination for national sports activities.
