Srinagar, February 21: New snowfall blanketed several regions in Kashmir on Friday, while intermittent rains were observed in the plains, according to officials.
Popular tourist destinations such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam saw fresh snow overnight, officials reported.
Anantnag, Zojila Pass, Banihal, Sadhna Pass, and Machil in Kupwara, as well as Razdan Pass in Bandipora, also recorded snowfall.
The valley’s plains, including Srinagar, experienced sporadic rainfall overnight, they added.
The Meteorological Department noted that in the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain fell in the plains, with light to moderate snowfall in higher elevations and some areas experiencing isolated moderate to heavy snowfall.
The MeT Office indicated that the weather is expected to remain cloudy but generally dry from February 21 to 24. Between February 25 and 28, light to moderate rain or snow is anticipated in many areas, with isolated heavy falls possible.
This winter has been relatively dry for Kashmir, with January and February recorded precipitation deficits of approximately 80 percent.
Nevertheless, the recent wet weather, combined with forecasts for further precipitation, has raised optimism among residents about alleviating the significant rainfall deficit in the region.
