Jammu, Dec 27: With the New Year festivities just around the corner, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) has issued a set of guidelines and an advisory for the public on Friday.
The Advisory emphasizes, “As we approach the New Year, the Motor Vehicles Department appeals to all young individuals to celebrate responsibly by refraining from stunts, reckless driving, racing, and excessive speeding.”
“Engaging in such hazardous activities not only jeopardizes your safety but also poses a threat to others on the road,” it continues, urging everyone to say no to stunts and racing because performing them on public roads is illegal and very dangerous. Choose safety over excitement.
“Speeding diminishes your ability to respond effectively and manage your vehicle, thereby increasing the likelihood of accidents. Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs; instead, opt for a designated driver or book a taxi,” the Advisory states.
It also reminds drivers to always wear seat belts in cars and helmets on two-wheelers.
“Obey all traffic signals and road signs, respect fellow road users, and do not use mobile phones or other distractions while driving,” it added, pointing out the importance of using designated parking spaces to prevent traffic disruptions or penalties.
The enforcement teams from the Motor Vehicles Department will be actively monitoring the roads during the night to ensure the safety of the public. Strict measures, including fines, license suspensions, and possible vehicle impoundment, will be enforced against those engaging in reckless driving, racing, stunts, excessive speeding, or overloading, the statement warned.
“Young drivers are vital in fostering a culture of safe driving. Be a responsible citizen by prioritizing safety and encouraging your peers to do likewise. Reckless driving may seem thrilling, but it is never worth the risk to your life or the lives of others,” the Advisory concluded, urging the youth to celebrate the New Year responsibly and prioritize safety.
