KARACHI, Feb 19:
In a dominating performance, New Zealand defeated defending champions Pakistan by 60 runs in the opening match of the Champions Trophy held today. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand set an impressive total of 320 for five, bolstered by centuries from Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118 not out), along with a rapid half-century from Glenn Phillips (61 off 39 balls).
Pakistan’s response fell short as they were bowled out for 260 in 47.2 overs, with Babar Azam scoring 64 and Khushdil Shah contributing 69 runs. Salman Agha also made a quickfire 42 off 28 deliveries.
For New Zealand, Will O’Rourke stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 47 runs.
