Srinagar/New Delhi, Jan 28: On Tuesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed searches at six locations across Jammu and Kashmir linked to the murder of two migrant workers from Punjab in the Shaheed Ganj area of Srinagar last year.
On February 7, 2024, Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masi — both from Chamyari in Amritsar — were shot by suspected members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. Singh was pronounced dead at the scene, while Masi succumbed to his injuries the following day in a Srinagar hospital.
The NIA assumed control of the investigation on June 15 last year, following directives from the Union Home Ministry. Previously, the agency had filed a charge sheet against four individuals involved in the case.
According to officials, searches took place in Srinagar, Badgam, and Sopore.
“NIA operatives conducted searches at the homes of three individuals identified as Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, A R Shalla, and Nisar Ahmad. Concurrent raids were also performed at two locations in Srinagar, including a residential property and an office belonging to a person from Sopore town,” the NIA stated.
The searches led to the confiscation of “incriminating materials” from properties associated with “sympathizers, cadres, and overground workers” of the banned LeT and its affiliate The Resistance Front, the statement added.
“The suspects have been implicated in providing harbor, shelter, and logistical support to terrorists. Current investigations by the NIA have indicated that the masterminds of LeT and TRF were engaging with youths in the Kashmir Valley to plan attacks on non-locals as part of a conspiracy against the government of India,” the statement elaborated.
The criminal conspiracy was allegedly organized both in-person and through online platforms, utilizing encrypted social media applications, the agency reported.
