“The charge-sheeted individuals maintained contact with their HM handlers based in Pakistan. The explosives, arms, and various incriminating items were seized on June 30, 2024, during a checkpoint operation conducted by security forces at Machipora, Rashidabad in the Baramulla district,” the statement indicated.
It further explained that when security personnel signalled for Waheed’s vehicle to stop, he attempted to evade arrest but was apprehended. A search of his vehicle and person resulted in the discovery of the material.
“During the investigation, Waheed admitted to his association with HM, where he was acting as an Over Ground Worker (OGW). Additional searches at his residence in Mujgung, Srinagar, uncovered further incriminating evidence,” the statement detailed.
The NIA also reported identifying Mubashir Maqbool Mir as a conspirator in the case. “He was subsequently arrested as well,” it stated.
The investigation disclosed that Mubashir was providing financial support to Waheed. The investigations related to case RC-6/2024/NIA/JMU are ongoing as part of the NIA’s efforts to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and determine the intended destination for the arms and materials,” the agency added.
