New Delhi, Feb 1: The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet against the younger brother of notorious gangster Aman Sahu in connection with the Jharkhand Tetariyakhand coal mine terror attack, as stated by the agency on Saturday.
The attack took place in December 2020 and was part of a criminal scheme orchestrated by the Sujit Sinha and Aman Sahu terror gang aimed at extortion and disrupting operations at the colliery in Latehar, Jharkhand, according to the agency’s statement.
Akash Kumar, hailing from Ranchi district in Jharkhand, has been chargesheeted under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the agency revealed.
This marks the fifth chargesheet filed by the NIA against a total of 26 accused in this case.
Taking over the investigation in March 2021, the NIA found that Akash, who is currently incarcerated due to his involvement in several criminal activities in Jharkhand, played a direct role in the conspiracy behind the mine attack. He was involved in harboring, directing, and investing terror funds, as well as establishing the infrastructure for the terror group, the statement added.
Akash served as the financial hub for the terrorist organization, collecting levies and extortion payments through various channels. He utilized financial layering to launder the extorted funds via multiple shell companies and financial entities.
Additionally, he invested the funds into various assets owned by Aman Sahu and his associates, according to the report.
The Aman Sahu gang has been implicated in numerous grave offenses in Jharkhand, which include bombings, shootings, arson, and attacks against police and jail officials, the statement detailed.
The gang has disrupted government operations and law and order while terrorizing businessmen and contractors for extorting money, as per NIA findings.
Moreover, the gang has established links with splinter Naxal groups and other terrorist organizations beyond state lines to further its violent objectives, the NIA concluded. (PTI)
