Dubai, Jan 24: India’s limited participation in One Day Internationals during 2024 influenced the selection of the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year, as no Indian players were included in the announcement made on Friday.
The ICC’s all-star lineup consists of four players from Sri Lanka, three players each from Pakistan and Afghanistan, and one representative from the West Indies.
India participated in only three ODIs this year—an away series against Sri Lanka—losing two matches and tying the third.
Charith Asalanka, the captain of Sri Lanka, was also named the captain of the ICC team due to his outstanding performance throughout the year.
In 2024, Asalanka made 16 ODI appearances, scoring 605 runs at an impressive average of 50.2, which included one century and four fifties.
Sri Lanka played the most ODIs in the previous year, totaling 18, of which they won 12.
Pakistan secured seven victories out of nine ODIs, while Afghanistan triumphed in eight of their 14 matches.
Sherfane Rutherford, a hard-hitting West Indies player who debuted internationally in 2023, was the only non-Asian player in the all-star XI, amassing 425 runs in nine games at an extraordinary average of 106.2.
