New Delhi, Feb 24: Authorities apprehended a 20-year-old woman for attempting to smuggle narcotics valued at over Rs 11 crore into India, hidden inside packets of cookies and rice, at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, as reported by the Customs department on Monday.
The woman was stopped upon her arrival from Bangkok on February 21, according to officials.
“Upon inspecting her black trolley bag, we found eight packets of cookies and rice containing a green substance suspected to be ganja or marijuana, weighing a total of 11,284 grams,” stated the Customs department.
“Initial tests on the seized items indicated that they indeed contain ganja or marijuana. The estimated street value of the seized goods is around Rs 11.28 crore,” they noted.
The woman, who is from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested, and the narcotic substance was confiscated, a Customs official confirmed. (AGENCIES)
