SRINAGAR, Jan 11: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Saturday that the upcoming inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transform Sonamarg into a year-round tourist destination and potentially establish it as an excellent ski resort.
Abdullah visited the Z-Morh tunnel site on Saturday to finalize the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit.
He expressed on X, “I visited Sonamarg today to assess the preparations for PM @narendramodi ji’s arrival on Monday. With the Z-Morh tunnel’s inauguration, tourism in Sonamarg will thrive throughout the year, paving the way for its development as a top ski resort.”
“The local community will no longer need to migrate during winter, and the travel time from Srinagar to Kargil/Leh will significantly decrease,” he noted.
Abdullah also shared drone footage and images of the tunnel area and the picturesque resort town.
