SRINAGAR, Jan 13: Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the PDP, criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his efforts to legitimize the Central Government’s decision to abolish Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. In a message posted on X, she highlighted the contrast between Abdullah’s actions and those of her late father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who was also a former chief minister. She noted, “The distinction between a short-sighted politician and a genuine statesman is stark. In 2003, during his visit to Srinagar, then-PM Vajpayee of the BJP demonstrated immense trust in Mufti sahab’s vision of peace, even with PDP holding just 16 MLAs. In contrast, our current CM, despite having the support of 50 MLAs, has done everything possible to appease and normalize Delhi’s unilateral actions from August 2019, which effectively dismantled and deprived J&K of its special status,” Mehbooba remarked.
