JAMMU, Feb 6: Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, addressed the recent incidents in Billawar and Baramulla on Thursday, stating that he has raised concerns with the Central Government, while the Jammu and Kashmir administration will conduct its own investigations.
In Billawar, a suspected Over Ground Worker, summoned for questioning, was found dead, with police indicating that it was a suicide.
Concurrently, a truck driver was shot and killed in Baramulla after allegedly bypassing a security checkpoint late Wednesday night.
Abdullah expressed his concerns on social media, stating, “I have seen reports detailing the excessive use of force towards Makhan Din in police custody, which I believe contributed to his suicide. Additionally, the circumstances surrounding Waseem Ahmed Malla’s shooting by the army remain unclear.”
“These incidents are deeply unfortunate and should have been avoided,” he continued, emphasizing the need for cooperation between the government and the local populace to achieve stability in J&K.
“Such occurrences risk alienating the community we must engage in our pursuit of normalcy,” he remarked. Abdullah further confirmed that he has urged the Union Government to investigate both incidents in a timely and transparent manner, adding that the J&K Government will also initiate its inquiries.
