SRINAGAR, Jan 29: The President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, expressed today that the establishment of a democratic Government led by Omar Abdullah has freed the populace from bureaucratic complexities and signaled the end of an unaccountable governance era.
He made these remarks during a gathering of party officials aimed at honoring Syed Tauqeer, the newly appointed Provincial Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.
The event was organized by Provincial President Adv Showkat Ahmad Mir and saw attendance from MLAs Shameem Firdous, Ahsan Pardesi, Salman Sagar, Mushtaq Guroo, former minister Mohammad Khalil Bandh, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, and SM Head Ifra Jan.
While discussing the transitions following the establishment of the democratically elected Government under Omar Abdullah, Dr. Farooq highlighted that the age of bureaucratic governance is behind us. “Citizens are no longer viewed as subjects but as individuals entitled to hold their elected Government responsible. The days when the common public could not access power corridors are over. Now, people from diverse backgrounds are visiting the secretariat to have their concerns addressed,” he stated.
He further noted that the community feels relieved knowing they have elected representatives in the legislature and Government. “The elected Government recognizes its duty to meet its constituents’ expectations and is diligently working towards restoring statehood. Numerous initiatives have been implemented already, with more in the pipeline aimed at alleviating the challenges imposed by previous non-NC Governments,” he added.
“Every commitment in our manifesto will be honored without exception. The Government, spearheaded by Omar Abdullah, is engaged on multiple fronts to revive our dignity and tackle the developmental hurdles accumulated over the last decade. Our dedication to progress and accountability remains steadfast, assuring a promising future for every citizen,” he elaborated.
Dr. Farooq also underscored that the strength of the party resides in its unity and the sacrifices its members have made over the years. He urged party functionaries to diligently prepare for the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat elections.
He stressed the importance of nominating educated youth and women candidates, particularly in light of women’s reservations, stating, “It is vital for women and youth to take an influential role in shaping our region’s future through active engagement in the democratic process.”
