JAMMU, Jan 11: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference (NC), asserted today that the government under Omar Abdullah is committed to enhancing Jammu’s economy by fully exploiting its tourism potential.
During his visit to Charwa Mansar, he interacted with locals and addressed their concerns. He was joined by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of Jammu, MLA Poonch Ajaz Jan, Israr Khan, and others.
The public delegations that met with Dr. Farooq stressed the importance of improving tourist infrastructure in the area to draw more visitors. They voiced their disappointment over the government’s neglect since 2015, which has exacerbated challenges like limited access to basic utilities such as electricity and water.
Additionally, the delegations highlighted the declining condition of the lake and its surroundings, calling for immediate cleanup efforts to revitalize it into a premier tourist destination. They also noted the poor state of local roads.
The residents urged for prompt and effective action to tackle these urgent issues to enhance the living standards of Charwa Mansar.
In his address, Dr. Farooq underscored Jammu’s significant potential but acknowledged that reversing a decade of developmental setbacks will take time. He pointed out that the Omar Abdullah-led government prioritized the Jammu region’s development by appointing key cabinet members from the area from the very beginning.
Looking forward, Dr. Farooq advocated for the formulation of a comprehensive policy that aims to stimulate Jammu’s economy through its tourism assets. He stressed the necessity of establishing a well-organized tourism circuit that includes must-visit locations such as Shiv Khori, Utterbehni-Purmandal, Patnitop, Mansar, Bagh-e-Bahu, Suchetgarh Border, and other attractions in Doda-Kishtwar-Bhaderwah and Kathua.
He emphasized the importance of crafting itineraries that promote longer stays and boost economic activity in the region. “By implementing strategic initiatives and showcasing hidden gems like Mansar Lake, we can achieve lasting economic growth and prosperity for the area,” concluded the NC president.
