New Delhi, Dec 12: On Thursday, several opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) staged a protest within the Parliament complex, displaying placards inscribed with various Hindi letters that collectively read ‘desh bikne nahin denge’ (we will not allow the country to be sold). They vocally reiterated their call for a joint parliamentary investigation into the Adani issue. This demonstration is the latest in a series of daily protests spearheaded by the Congress party regarding the Adani controversy.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with MPs from Congress, DMK, and the Left parties, gathered at the Makar Dwar steps and in front of Samvidhan Sadan, many carrying placards that together conveyed ‘desh bikne nahin denge’. They denounced the alleged collaboration between Prime Minister Modi and industrialist Adani while insisting on the necessity of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) investigation into the situation.
The preceding day, several opposition MPs welcomed their BJP colleagues in the Parliament with a tricolor card in one hand and a red rose in the other, encouraging the ruling party to ensure productive discussions on various issues, including the Adani controversy.
During this engagement, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, presented the tricolor card to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as he entered the main Parliament building. On Tuesday, MPs carried dark blue bags featuring caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani, with “Modi-Adani Bhai-Bhai” emblazoned on one side.
Earlier in the week, some leaders from the INDIA bloc protested within the Parliament complex concerning the Adani issue, with Rahul Gandhi conducting a mock “interview” involving Congress members wearing masks of Modi and Adani.
The ongoing protests regarding the Adani issue have persisted in the Parliament complex since the Winter session commenced.
The Congress party, along with several other opposition factions, has called for a JPC investigation following the indictment of Adani and his company officials in a US court. The Congress asserts that Adani’s indictment “vindicates” their demand for a JPC investigation into various “scams” associated with the billionaire’s conglomerate.
Rahul Gandhi has demanded Adani’s immediate arrest, while the Adani Group has dismissed all allegations as “baseless.” (Agencies)
