NEW DELHI, Dec 10: On Tuesday, several Opposition MPs staged a protest regarding the Adani controversy outside Parliament. They carried black ‘jholas’ (bags) adorned with caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and billionaire Gautam Adani, with the phrase ‘Modi Adani Bhai Bhai’ printed on the reverse side. This marks the continuation of a series of unique protests organized by the Congress party leading up to Parliament’s morning session.
The demonstration included prominent figures such as Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha; Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra; and MPs from Congress, DMK, JMM, and the Left, who all gathered at the Makar Dwar steps. They chanted slogans accusing Modi and Adani of collusion and demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the allegations.
Earlier, Gandhi convened a meeting with Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha to evaluate the party’s position on various issues and to strategize their approach in Parliament.
This protest followed a prior demonstration by leaders from various INDIA bloc parties in the Parliament complex concerning the Adani issue, which included Rahul Gandhi mock interviewing Congress members wearing masks of Modi and Adani.
Positioned at the Makar Dwar steps, Gandhi, alongside Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and MPs from other opposition parties, chanted slogans such as “Modi, Adani ek hain” and “we want justice” on Monday.
Opposition protests regarding the Adani issue have been ongoing within the Parliament complex since the winter session commenced. The Congress and several other opposition parties have called for a JPC inquiry due to the indictment of Adani and company officials in a US court. The Congress contends that Adani’s indictment validates their demands for a JPC investigation into the various scandals involving the industrialist’s conglomerate. Rahul Gandhi has called for Adani’s immediate arrest, while the Adani Group categorically refutes all allegations as “baseless”. (Agencies)
