Jammu, Dec 13: A senior official announced on Friday that the BSF has significantly enhanced its operational capacity by deploying additional personnel and utilizing technical resources for continuous surveillance, aiming for zero infiltration across the border. He noted that extra troops have been stationed to reinforce the border security framework, emphasizing “we cannot take any chances” with this critical frontier.
Inspector General D K Boora of BSF (Jammu frontier) informed during a press conference that throughout the year, two Pakistani infiltrators were killed while two others were captured, highlighting a notable reduction in infiltration attempts. The force successfully confiscated approximately 7.6 kilograms of narcotics along the International Border and in the hinterland during the same period.
In response to inquiries regarding an encounter in the Kathua district in September, which involved two Pakistani terrorists believed to have crossed the border, he stated, “Firstly, we had not received prior notice regarding the terrorists’ entry route. Secondly, without information, it can be accurately said that there has been no infiltration from the other side.”
He affirmed that anyone attempting to cross into Indian territory was either terminated or apprehended by the BSF.
When discussing the difficulties of patrolling the border during winter months, he mentioned that this is a known challenge and “we are equipped to handle foggy conditions.”
“We have implemented sufficient measures already,” he explained, countering a reporter’s claim that there was heightened pressure on border security forces.
“While snowfall is expected, I have not observed any snow in the entire Jammu sector,” he remarked.
He acknowledged that snowfall could present challenges when it occurs, but reiterated, “Concerning border security, nothing unusual is taking place this year. We are skilled at operating in foggy conditions and know precisely which tools and strategies to employ. The borders will remain secure.”
When asked about potential infiltration attempts from terrorists situated at launch pads across the border, he remarked that such attempts are not unprecedented.
“The number of terrorists stationed across the border is irrelevant to us. We don’t keep a tally because our primary focus is to ensure that no terrorist or intruder crosses into our territory,” he stated.
The officer concluded that the BSF’s sole challenge is upholding the integrity of the border and preventing any infiltration.
“We operate under the principle of achieving no infiltration throughout the entire year. I firmly believe we are capable of that,” he stated.
Regarding the existence of terrorist training camps on the other side, he affirmed their presence is inconsequential for the BSF, which possesses ample resources and is fully prepared to counter any attempts to breach the border.
