Hyderabad, Mar 1: AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being mute when US President Donald Trump unilaterally announced that America would offer F-35 jets to India, despite Modi’s claims of having a 56-inch chest.
Speaking at the AIMIM headquarters during the party’s formation day celebration, he also criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his comments about Samajwadi Party leaders, suggesting that while they enroll their children in English medium schools, they wish for others’ children to study Urdu and become “maulvis”.
Owaisi referenced a meeting between PM Modi and Trump during Modi’s recent trip to the US, quoting Trump as stating ‘we will sell Narendra Modi F-35’.
“Is he (Trump) the one to decide or are we? Our Prime Minister, who prides himself on a 56-inch chest, stood silent. Who is Trump to make decisions for me? Mr. Modi, I will determine whether I want the F-35, a European fighter, or whatever else I choose, not Trump. How could you let him dictate terms?” he remarked.
While targeting Adityanath, Owaisi also claimed that the BJP aims to mold the nation into a uniform entity characterized by ‘one language, one religion, one ideology, and one leader’.
Adityanath had criticized the Samajwadi Party for advocating the translation of Assembly proceedings into Urdu, arguing, “They send their children to English medium schools, but when the government seeks to provide this opportunity to other children, they implore to ‘teach them Urdu’… They wish to make these children maulvis and lead the country towards fanaticism (kathmulla-pan).” Owaisi stated that he wanted to remind the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla mentioned that any speech delivered in Parliament will be translated into Urdu and other languages.
The AIMIM chief emphasized that Adityanath is unaware that Urdu is integral to Uttar Pradesh’s culture.
“The members of RSS and BJP don’t recognize that Urdu is safeguarded by the Constitution, just like other languages. They fail to grasp that not all Muslims speak Urdu; it is not solely a Muslim language. This language has been a part of the nation’s struggle for freedom. It belongs to this country,” he asserted.
