Jammu, Feb 24: Senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur stated on Monday that India has never harbored negative feelings toward Pakistan, emphasizing that the neighboring country has only destabilized itself through its hostility towards New Delhi.
He also addressed the ongoing controversy regarding USAID funding, claiming the $21 million allocated for improving voter turnout in India serves to “fully expose” those scheming with foreign entities to undermine democracy in India.
“Pakistan is receiving a suitable response to its provocations on the borders, as has been the case in the past. If Pakistan persists with its harmful actions, our forces know how to handle the situation, as they have demonstrated before,” he remarked during a press conference.
“Pakistan has undermined its own stability in its attempts to destabilize India. No one longs for a neighboring country to become a failed state; we have never wished harm upon it, but those who pursue malicious objectives ultimately face ruin,” Thakur added, referencing India’s recent victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy on Sunday.
On the issue of USAID, Thakur remarked, “I previously stated that certain foreign powers are attempting to weaken Indian democracy. The highest leadership within the Congress party has been exposed for its ties to US-based billionaire investor George Soros in efforts to unseat the BJP. This is part of a broader agenda by influential powers to undermine the Indian government and democracy.”
“Congratulations to the citizens who foiled these endeavors and reinforced democracy by electing the Narendra Modi-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government for a third consecutive term. We are dedicated to propelling India towards development,” the former Union minister asserted.
Earlier this month, controversy arose when Elon Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) in the US announced it had rescinded a $21 million grant intended to enhance voter turnout in India.
When asked about Prime Minister Modi’s nomination of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as one of ten individuals from diverse fields to combat obesity, Thakur remarked that this initiative would raise health awareness among India’s 1.4 billion people and alleviate strain on the healthcare system.
“Those nominated by Modi should engage with a wider audience and discuss the topic publicly,” he said.
Thakur also expressed his approval of the creation of a new political party by former leaders of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami in Kashmir, aimed at contesting elections and advocating for the return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, emphasizing that everyone should contribute to this cause.
In response to queries regarding Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) head Mohan Bhagwat’s advice to Hindus about adopting traditional attire and minimizing English usage, the BJP leader humorously responded in Hindi, “I will adhere to the guidelines.” He called for the identification and deportation of Rohingya immigrants currently residing in Jammu and Kashmir.
He dismissed concerns raised by local businesses and transport operators that a direct train service to Kashmir would negatively affect Jammu, asserting, “We must enhance our capacities.” “Jammu has the highest number of pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi. Border tourism in Jammu and other locations holds significant value, and there is no rivalry with Kashmir. We need to devise a comprehensive strategy that benefits both Jammu and the Kashmir divisions,” he stated.
Highlighting the Union budget for 2025-26, Thakur asserted that it would play a crucial role in developing India. “Jammu and Kashmir are of great importance to the Prime Minister and the BJP, as they are to the entire nation. Every effort will be made to promote the development of Jammu and Kashmir,” he concluded.
