Rawalpindi, Feb 24: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has addressed a security incident that occurred when a spectator invaded the field during the New Zealand-Bangladesh match at the ICC Champions Trophy held at Rawalpindi Stadium.
The board emphasized in a statement that the protection of players and officials is their utmost concern.
“As a responsible organization, we have collaborated with local security authorities, who have agreed to enhance the number of security personnel present around the field and improve access control measures at all venues,” the statement detailed.
The individual apprehended was quickly arrested and brought before a court on Tuesday. Furthermore, they have received a lifetime ban from all cricket venues across Pakistan.
To avert the recurrence of such situations, the PCB is actively working with security agencies and venue management to examine and bolster security measures.
The intruder, who approached Monday’s centurion Rachin Ravindra with the intent to hug him, was detained shortly after the incident and handed over to law enforcement. (PTI)
