In a discussion with reporters, PDP leader Waheed Para stated that, following the guidance of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, the party has prepared a bill for the regularization of daily wagers and casual laborers. “This legislation should be implemented as a permanent solution to provide job security for the thousands of workers who have faced hardship for years,” he remarked.
The second proposed bill aims to address the rampant issues of alcohol and drug addiction, which Para highlights as an escalating problem in Kashmir. “We are striving to implement regulations on alcohol and tackle drug dependency that is affecting our youth. The establishment of a crime-free society and the safety of women necessitate stringent measures,” he added.
The third bill seeks to halt ongoing demolition efforts and secure land rights for residents on state-owned lands, which include State Land, Khai Charai, Shamilat, and Nazool. “Many individuals are at risk of losing their homes as demolition continues. We will advocate for ownership rights to protect residents from forced evictions,” he explained.
Para called on all political entities, including the National Conference, to support these initiatives transcending political and religious divides. “Employment, housing, and social stability are universal concerns, irrespective of one’s political or religious beliefs,” he asserted.
In response to rising unemployment and its correlation with drug abuse, Para emphasized that regulating alcohol and reducing drug use are critical steps toward fostering a safer and more stable society. “If we do not take action promptly, we jeopardize the very existence of housing in Kashmir. The right to housing is essential, and we will persist in our mission to address these pressing matters,” he concluded.
