New Delhi, Jan 25: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
PM Modi warmly welcomed Prabowo Subianto as they greeted and shook hands before commencing their discussions.
According to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, their talks are expected to further enhance the ties between India and Indonesia.
“Strengthening connections with a key partner in India’s ‘Act East’ policy. PM @narendramodi warmly welcomed President @prabowo of Indonesia at Hyderabad House. Meaningful discussions to deepen India – Indonesia relations are on the agenda,” Jaiswal shared on X.
Earlier that day, Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto honored Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat by laying a wreath and signing the visitors’ book, accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs (MoS) Pabitra Margherita.
President Subianto received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, signifying the importance of his visit and paving the way for advanced diplomatic discussions between India and Indonesia.
“A special welcome for a cherished friend! President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn and PM @narendramodi warmly greeted President @prabowo of Indonesia during his inaugural State Visit to India. President @prabowo received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” Jaiswal posted on X.
Prabowo Subianto is set to be the Chief Guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations. This visit marks his first State Visit to India since taking office in October 2024.
He expressed that Indonesia views India as a “very great friend” and reiterated his dedication to fostering closer cooperation and partnership with India.
The President stated, “I want to convey my heartfelt appreciation for the incredible honor I received today. I have been officially invited to India. Indonesia considers India a very great friend. India was among the first nations, perhaps the first, to recognize our independence and support us in our struggle; we will always remember India’s contributions. Today, I feel immensely honored and doubly so as I will be your chief guest at tomorrow’s Republic Day parade.”
“Madam President, I wish to express my deepest gratitude. Excellency, Prime Minister Modi, I want to assure you of my commitment to enhancing cooperation and partnership with India. That is my resolve,” he added.
As per an earlier release from the MEA, India and Indonesia enjoy warm and friendly ties that span over millennia. As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, Indonesia serves as a crucial pillar in India’s Act East Policy and our vision for the Indo-Pacific region. The State Visit of Indonesia’s President will allow leaders to perform a thorough review of bilateral relations as well as address regional and global matters of shared interest. (AGENCIES)
