PARIS, Feb 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for the United States on Wednesday after concluding his visit to France. His trip included co-chairing a summit focused on Artificial Intelligence and engaging in bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, covering topics such as trade, defense, and energy.
President Macron was present at the airport in Marseille to bid farewell to Modi.
In a post on X, Modi expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you, France!” and highlighted the productive nature of his visit, which involved discussions on AI, commerce, energy, and cultural ties.
Modi also thanked President Macron and the people of France for their hospitality.
During his time in the US, PM Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with President Trump, encompassing both restricted and delegation-level discussions.
He will become the fourth foreign leader to meet Trump shortly after the American president’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States in January.
Within a month of Trump beginning his second term, he has already welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
During his two-day stay in France, Modi co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit with President Macron and engaged in bilateral dialogues with him.
In their discussions, the two leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and investment relations and committed to enhancing collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region as well as various global platforms and initiatives.
Modi and Macron also inaugurated India’s new consulate in Marseille, France.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit together with President Macron in Paris and spoke at the 14th India-France CEOs Forum.
Additionally, during his visit to France, Modi met US Vice President J.D. Vance, along with his Indian-origin wife and their two sons, marking Modi’s first engagement with top officials of the Trump administration prior to his US visit.
While in the US, Modi plans to meet with President Trump and connect with business leaders and members of the Indian community.
On the sidelines of the AI Action Summit in Paris, Modi also held a meeting with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, discussing the promising prospects that AI presents for India.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the trip as a “historic visit to France,” which concluded in the historic city of Marseille.
