VISAKHAPATNAM (ANDHRA PRADESH), Jan 8: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India aims to produce 5 million tons of green hydrogen by the year 2030. After virtually inaugurating projects valued over Rs 2 lakh crore, he revealed that two green hydrogen hubs will be established in the country, with one located here in Visakhapatnam.
“In 2023, the country initiated the National Green Hydrogen Mission with the goal of producing 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030. The first phase involves setting up two green hydrogen hubs, one of which will be in Visakhapatnam,” Modi stated.
He also highlighted that under the “Swarnandhra Pradesh” initiative, Andhra Pradesh aims to evolve into a USD 2.5 trillion economy by 2047, with the central government collaborating with the southern state to achieve this vision.
Referring to the state as a “land of possibilities and opportunities,” Modi emphasized its potential to become a hub for advanced technologies.
Previously, the PM virtually laid the foundation for numerous projects, including a green hydrogen hub in Anakapalli. Additionally, he initiated the groundwork for a new railway zone and dedicated several infrastructure projects in the rail and road sectors.
The green hydrogen hub in Anakapalli, situated nearby, is a collaborative initiative between NTPC Green Energy Ltd and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP).
Modi also virtually laid the foundation for the Krishnapatnam industrial hub, a project worth Rs 1,518 crore that will occupy a 2,500-acre area and is expected to create 50,000 job opportunities.
Furthermore, he laid the foundation stone for a Rs 1,877 crore bulk drug park in Nakkapalli, which, requiring an investment of Rs 11,542 crore, will span 2,002 acres and is projected to provide jobs for 54,000 individuals.
The event was attended by AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. Earlier, upon Modi’s arrival in the city, the three leaders participated in a grand roadshow.
With large crowds in attendance, people showered flowers on the leaders as they paraded in an open vehicle, excitedly waving back at the public. The route was adorned with flags from TDP, BJP, and Janasena.
Beginning at Sampath Vinayak temple, the roadshow concluded at Andhra University’s engineering college ground, where a public meeting was set to take place.
This marked Modi’s first visit to the state since he began his third consecutive term as Prime Minister in 2024. The NDA coalition in Andhra Pradesh, which includes TDP, BJP, and Janasena, was instrumental in forming the union government. (PTI)
